Murcia / Barcelona, 14 May 2025

Professor Pilar Orero, (UAB), recently met with Professor Blas Subiela, researcher and lecturer at the Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM), to explore potential avenues for collaboration within the framework of ALFIE cutting-edge initiative.
The meeting served as the occasion to formally invite Professor Subiela to participate as an expert in Plain Language at the upcoming international workshop to be held on 3 June 2025 at the Bosch Spain Headquarters in Madrid. The workshop will bring together diverse stakeholders to address the ethical, legal, and societal challenges posed by the development and deployment of artificial intelligence.
During the meeting, Professor Orero presented the main objectives of the ALFIE project, which seeks to promote the development of AI technologies that are ethical, inclusive, and accessible. As part of the collaboration, both institutions agreed to co-organise an open webinar for UCAM students during the next academic year. The event will introduce the ETD-hub tool developed by the ALFIE project and will gather input from students on their expectations and needs regarding responsible and understandable AI systems.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to publicise this collaboration as an example of fruitful engagement between universities and European research initiatives aimed at advancing fairer, more transparent, and human-centred technologies.
