MA Dissertation on Biases in Automatic Speech Recognition
We are delighted to share the findings of Biases in Automatic Speech Recognition: Accessibility and Inclusion Barriers in Speech-to-Text Systems, the MA thesis defended by Arunachala Luca de Tena. Inspired by the UAB use case in ALFIE, this research explores how speech-to-text systems can create accessibility barriers that affect the digital inclusion of certain user groups. Una Europa, Bosch and ALFIE Bring Together 39 Students to Shape Ethical AI for Social Welfare
San Lorenzo de El Escorial, July 21, 2025 — Thirty-nine students from ten European universities are meeting this week at the Exe Victoria Palace Hotel to tackle an ambitious question: how can artificial intelligence serve society in a fair, ethical and socially responsible way? ALFIE Takes the Stage at the UN WSIS+20 High-Level EventGeneva, 7–11 July 2025
We are excited to share that Pilar Orero presented the ALFIE project during the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025 held in Geneva, Switzerland. Organized by the UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU), WSIS+20 commemorates two decades of international efforts to create inclusive and people-focused digital societies. Pilar contributed to Session 229 – Media and Education for All: Bridging Female Academic Leaders and Society, which highlighted the intersection of academic research, media, education, and societal equity.
