ALFIE Takes the Stage at the UN WSIS+20 High-Level EventGeneva, 7–11 July 2025

We are excited to share that Pilar Orero presented the ALFIE project during the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025 held in Geneva, Switzerland. Organized by the UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU), WSIS+20 commemorates two decades of international efforts to create inclusive and people-focused digital societies. Pilar contributed to Session 229 – Media and Education for All: Bridging Female Academic Leaders and Society, which highlighted the intersection of academic research, media, education, and societal equity.

In her presentation, Pilar introduced ALFIE – (Assessment of Learning technologies and Frameworks for Intelligent and Ethical AI), a research project dedicated to mitigating bias in AI-generated data models. ALFIE is grounded in the belief that AI must be both ethical and inclusive, especially when used in educational and media contexts that shape public understanding. The session explored how projects like ALFIE can help reimagine data practices and algorithmic fairness, ultimately empowering underrepresented communities and ensuring a more equitable digital future.

Participation in WSIS+20 reinforced the importance of responsible AI development and its role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ALFIE’s vision aligns with WSIS principles by advocating for inclusive education, ethical media practices, and gender-sensitive digital governance. We are grateful to WSIS, the session organizers, and Pilar for amplifying ALFIE’s mission on such a prestigious global platform.
