ALFIE Workshop on User Requirements for AutoML Platform
ALFIE Workshop on User Requirements for AutoML Platform On January 17th, ALFIE held an internal workshop with project partners. Led by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the workshop aimed to organise and categorise the user requirements gathered during the initial stages of the project. Using the interactive platform Miro, partners sorted the user requirement gathered by UAB into functional and non-functional requirements. Here are some of the results from the workshop: Defining Key Terms: Functional Requirements: These define the specific capabilities and behaviours expected from the AutoML platform. Essentially, they outline what the system must do. Examples from the workshop include: Ensure unbiased recognition

ALFIE at Clear Climate Workshop Discussing the future of Artificial Intelligence with Climate Data Experts
ALFIE at Clear Climate Workshop Discussing the future of Artificial Intelligence with Climate Data Experts On December 4th, ALFIE participated in the ClearClimate consortium meeting. The ClearClimate project aims to build international collaborations between researchers and practitioners to address climate information service development challenges. With a focus on enhancing skills in user-centred design, behavioural science, and computational techniques to create more effective CIS solutions, ClearClimate aims to develop researchers’ “soft skills” to bridge the gap between academia and industry, fostering European innovation. This is achieved through partnerships between academic institutions, providing cutting-edge training, and industries, offering real-world challenges in CIS development. ALFIE’s Kick-Off Meeting held in Nicosia
ALFIE’s Kick-Off Meeting held in Nicosia From the 21st to the 22nd of November 2024, ALFIE (https://alfie-project.eu) held its kick-off meeting in Nicosia, Cyprus. This was the first time partners met in person to discuss and plan our activities for the coming months of the project. ALFIE with the grant number 101177912 stands for Assessment of Learning technologies and Frameworks for Intelligent and Ethical AI. The ALFIE project will create an ecosystem that combines advanced AI technology with ethical standards, ensuring that the resulting AI systems are not only high-performing but also fair, transparent, and free from bias. The project focuses on building two key

Ying-Chieh Lee & Kingston School of Art / Better Images of AI / Who’s Creating the Kawaii Girl? / CC-BY 4.0 As society continues to confront the challenges of gender-based violence (GBV), emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) are proving to be both an opportunity and a risk. While AI offers innovative ways to support prevention, response, and advocacy, it also poses critical threats that require immediate and thoughtful attention. Here are three key risks associated with AI in the context of GBV:

Introducing the ALFIE Project
Introducing the ALFIE Project On the 4th of October, the EU funded project ALFIE had its pre-Kick off Meeting online. ALFIE (grant number 101177912) stands for Assessment of Learning technologies and Frameworks for Intelligent and Ethical AI and it will run for the next three years. The ALFIE project will create an ecosystem that combines advanced AI technology with ethical standards, ensuring that the resulting AI systems are not only high-performing but also fair, transparent, and free from bias. The project focuses on building two key components: EthiTech Dialogue Hub (ETD-Hub): A platform for dialogue and collaboration where AI experts, policymakers, legal professionals, and citizens can

ALFIE at the ITU: Paving the Way for Trustworthy AI in Europe
ALFIE at the ITU: Paving the Way for Trustworthy AI in Europe The recently launched ALFIE project was presented at the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Intersector Rapporteur Group Audiovisual Media Accessibility by Professor Pilar Orero (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). The IRA-AVA focuses on enhancing accessibility across the audiovisual sector. Founded in 2013, it aims to develop recommendation for access systems that support media accessibility across platforms like broadcasting, cable, and online services. The group collaborates with industry stakeholders, academic institutions, and standardisation organisations. Why ALFIE? ALFIE’s mission is ambitious yet crucial in today’s digital landscape. The project will establish two main pillars to guide AI
