Last week, on June 12, Pilar Orero from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona presented ALFIE at the 2nd UN Virtual Worlds Day, hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This global event gathered leaders, innovators, and stakeholders from across the UN system to explore how AI-powered virtual worlds can support sustainable development and digital cooperation.
The Virtual Worlds Day is a key initiative aligned with the UN’s Pact for the Future and the Global Digital Compact. Co-organized by a wide range of UN agencies—including FAO, UNECA, UNICEF, UNFCCC, and the World Bank—the event focused on how virtual and AI technologies can foster inclusivity and shape the future of digital public infrastructure.
In her presentation, Pilar Orero highlighted ALFIE’s dedication to inclusive and ethical design. She addressed the critical importance of reducing bias and using representative, ethical data to ensure that virtual worlds are accessible and equitable for everyone.
